At the same time, we’re surrounded by processed food, which seems like a viable quick fix when we’re already frazzled and running behind.

Unfortunately, junk food doesn’t fix much of anything. In the near term, it causes nutritional deficiencies and a blood sugar rollercoaster. Given enough time, it can lead to obesity, type 2 diabetes, or cardiovascular disease.

We try to buy our way out of this situation with white noise makers and the latest, greatest time saving gadgets… Have you ever noticed that although almost every technology was created to make us more efficient, we seem to be busier than ever before?

It is intriguing that many people view a busy lifestyle as aspirational and associate it with status, despite the widely acknowledged downsides of an overworked lifestyle on happiness, well-being, and health.

A digital detox doesn’t mean throwing away your phone or moving to the mountains. It’s about conscious use — using technology as a tool, not letting it use you.

  • Turn off non-essential notifications — don’t let your phone control your focus.
  • Set screen-time limits – institute social media boundaries to eliminate (or at least reduce) mindless scrolling.
  • Create tech-free zones — put your phone down while you eat, spend time with loved ones, walk the dog, and go to sleep.
  • Unsubscribe and declutter — emails, apps, and digital noise add up to mental clutter. Clear them out if they’re no longer relevant.

You’ll find yourself less overwhelmed, more present, and better able to focus.

Financial Detox: Reset Your Money Habits

Money is one of the biggest sources of stress. A financial detox helps you step back, see where your money is going, and create space for intentional financial choices.

Think of it as spring cleaning for your bank account!

  • Track your spending for a few weeks — awareness is key.
  • Press “pause” on your spending — challenge yourself to a no-spend week (or month), where you only buy the bare necessities. You’ll be surprised how creative you become when you stop relying on buying.
  • Find a few places to cut costs – examine your spending habits. Could you reduce your bills? Eliminate a few subscriptions? Are there ways to get the same (or more) for less? 

When you’re done with your financial detox, you’ll have more financial clarity, less stress, and will have made mad progress toward your money goals (saving, investing, building an emergency fund).

What we put into our bodies shapes how we think, feel, and perform. The problem isn’t occasional indulgence — it’s the daily sugar and processed foods that chips away at our energy and health.

  • Celebrate steps along the way — pat yourself on the back for each subscription canceled. Every hour off your phone or processed snack you skip is a step in the right direction!
